Overview
Starting on April 17, approximately 500,000 property owners in the City of Los Angeles will receive a unique ballot from LA’s Bureau of Street Lighting asking whether they approve a proposed special benefit assessment increase to fund the repair and maintenance of some 220,000 street lights and a vast underground network of conduit filled with 27,000 miles of copper wire. Ballots must be returned on or before June 2, 2026.
Each ballot will reflect the proposed updated street light repair/ maintenance assessment for the property owner. Most individual street lighting property assessments have not increased since 1996. The city can’t approve the increased fee without approval from property owners.
The ACoM briefing will feature BSL speakers, a tour of the Yard, and a first-hand view of some 15 of the city’s historic street lights.
