Event Overview
The Justice Department last week released 3.5 million documents in the case of the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Much of the news resulting from the release of the files has focused on the rich and powerful men in Epstein’s orbit. Epstein’s victims have largely been relegated to the sidelines.
Women have spoken out about Epstein’s trafficking of women and girls since 1996, but have largely been dismissed by law enforcement.
Speakers this week will discuss the prevalence of sex trafficking in the US; how women and girls are often gaslighted or arrested by law enforcement when they find the courage to speak out; and the difficulty of prosecuting sex trafficking cases. Fewer than 1% of trafficking cases result in convictions.
