洛杉磯縣宣布與全美最大教區洛杉磯教區合作，共同致力防止洛杉磯人繼續受新冠肺炎侵害。華府也傳出一些關於移民的好消息。
洛杉磯縣移民事務辦公室（Office of Immigrant Affairs）3月18日舉行縣民大會和社區新聞發布會，出席的洛杉磯教區和縣衛生官員說明對抗新冠肺炎的進展，以及如何防範下一波疫情的出現。
許多移民害怕，使用政府服務可能影響他們申請移民和綠卡。洛杉磯縣移民事務局局長夏普（Daniel Sharp）表示，拜登政府上周宣布暫停執行所謂的「公共負擔」（public charge）法規，這對移民社區來說，是一個非常正向的發展。
教區移民事務總監庫耶瓦斯（Isaac Cuevas）說：「很多時候，西語裔社區和移民社區居民對尋求市府服務懷有很大的恐懼和憂慮。」
「教區是值得信任的消息來源，如果我們鼓勵民眾做一些事，他們會聽從去做。身為美國最大教區，擁有將近500萬名註冊天主教會員，我們非常認真看待這件事。」
庫耶瓦斯建議：「愛和尊重鄰居最好的作法就是接種疫苗。」
他補充：「從信仰的角度來看，接種疫苗在道德上是可以接受的。」他還指出，大主教戈梅茲（Jose H. Gomez）對外公開自己接種了疫苗，並表示獲得教宗方濟各（Pope Francis）的支持。
洛杉磯縣衛生廳岡薩雷茲醫師（Eloisa Gonzalez）表示，民眾接種疫苗是保密而且免費的，也不會被問到個人移民身份，但目前最大挑戰仍然是疫苗短缺。
不過，岡薩雷茲指出，拜登總統最近宣布，到5月1日，「所有16歲和16歲以上希望接種疫苗的民眾應該都有疫苗可以接種。」
岡薩雷茲表示，洛杉磯縣現在的新冠死亡人數雖然已經比今年初少，但仍是去年節日前11月初的三倍。
除了承諾會增加疫苗供應量，官員和社區組織也強調疫苗接種的公平性，40%的疫苗將保留給資源不足的社區接種。
庫耶瓦斯強調了教區在這些受重創地區的超大影響力。
他表示，疫情爆發後，教區意識到民眾分成兩群人，一群是有時間願意幫助他人的人，一群是需要他人幫助的人。
教區的志工和捐獻者從一開始就協助支援，包括提供和運送生活必需品給民眾，有時只是單純打電話關心民眾。
洛杉磯教區、聖文森保祿教堂（St. Vincent de Paul）和哥倫布騎士會（Knights of Columbus）還成立了一個「服務之心」（Hearts to Serve）熱線(855) 423-6780。
教區內學校的教學幾乎沒有中斷過，他們在居家避疫令期間建立了網路學習計劃，並持續供應學生午餐。庫耶瓦斯指出，他們已經提供學生超過100萬份午餐。
衛生服務局烏里貝醫師（Erika Flores Uribe）從她的急診室醫師工作角度提出一些看法。

對於民眾擔心接種新冠疫苗和使用其他服務會影響移民身份，夏普做出說明。
他說：「答案是：不會。」
夏普說：「當您去接種疫苗，您的醫療紀錄屬於個人訊息，不會被提供給聯邦移民局官員。所有人接種疫苗都是免費，包括移民。」
烏里貝強調重覆檢測的重要性。她說：「我們看到接種疫苗的人愈來愈多，但同時，接受檢測的人愈來愈少。」
「少數族裔民眾，包括非裔和西語裔，他們的確診率仍然很高，在某些情況下，疫苗接種率仍然偏低。」
「由於有些人感染過病毒，加上接種疫苗的人愈來愈多，民眾已經有一定程度的免疫力，但具有充份免疫力和充份保護力的人口仍然不足，很難避免再出現另一波疫情。」
她說：「這場疫情讓許多人難以承受，特別是在疫情期間失去至親的人，這是非常悲傷的事。」
