接種兒童Covid-19疫苗?多族裔擔心與猶豫

A new study shows a glaring discrepancy between vaccination rates among Chinese children in San Francisco and their Latino and African American peers.

San Francisco residents already have one of the highest rates of Covid vaccinations in the country, with more than 90% of residents having received at least one dose of the vaccine and more than 73% of children having completed the two-dose primary vaccine series.

However, according to the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), the number of federally and state-approved booster doses for children ages 5-11 in 2022 needs to be increased, and regional and ethnic disparities in childhood vaccination in California have been identified.

According to SFDPH, San Francisco has the highest vaccination rate for Chinese children, with 86% of Chinese children vaccinated; however, only 37% of African American and 30% of Native American (Indian and Alaska Native) children were vaccinated, compared to 67% of whites and 56% of Latinos.

This is despite the fact that there is a large body of scientific research that demonstrates the effectiveness of the New Corona vaccine in preventing infection and reducing the incidence of severe illness, and that it has a low rate of serious side effects in young children. Why do Chinese have a higher rate of childhood vaccination compared to other ethnic groups?

The study found that Latino and African American distrust of the vaccine is rooted in long-standing “racism” in U.S. society and “long-standing governmental indifference to ethnic communities.
