Biden Wipes Away Tears as He Bids Farewell to the Democratic Party

In his remarks, Biden touted the accomplishments of his administration — strengthening the U.S. economy and uniting U.S. alliances abroad — and made the case for Americans to elect Harris to replace him in the White House.

CHICAGO, Illinois (NV) – President Joe Biden bolstered the Democratic Party’s support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the campaign to lead the fight for the White House against the Republican Party of former President Donald Trump with a speech at the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19, praising Harris as the only hope to protect American democracy, Reuters news agency reported.

Biden was the centerpiece of the DNC’s opening night, receiving a standing ovation from the Democratic Party faithful and delivering a farewell speech to the party he has served for half a century — even with five months left in office. The crowd erupted in cheers of “We Love Joe,” for several minutes.

Wiping away tears after being introduced to the audience by his daughter Ashley, Biden waved to the guests holding a sign that read “We (love) Biden.” He responded with a bright smile, “I love you too.”

Vote for Freedom

“Are you ready to vote for freedom? Are you ready to vote for democracy and for America? Well let me put it this way, are you ready to vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz?” Biden said.

The President has promised to be “the most enthusiastic volunteer” whenever Harris and Minnesota Governor Walz, Harris’ vice presidential running mate, need him.

Biden’s remarks in Chicago capped off a four-day event that was energized by a public that enthusiastically backed Harris and by voters who were relieved of Biden’s withdrawal and supported Harris’s return.

Biden’s reluctant decision to suspend his candidacy on July 21 came after heavy pressure from party leaders concerned that the 81-year-old incumbent was too old to win or serve another four years.
