Amid sweeping layoffs in newsrooms across the US, in Canada the government has implemented measures aimed at shoring up the struggling journalism sector.
AB 886, called the California Journalism Preservation Act, would mandate that social media platforms pay a “journalism usage fee” to news organizations for sharing their content.
