As the federal government moves to strip transgender rights, the California Civil Rights Department’s first-ever California Civil Rights Summit had a different message.
Mark Douglas, who lobbed death threats against his neighbors, along with racist and homophobic slurs, was not charged with a hate crime. He will serve 30 days of community service.
Amid a hostile environment for immigrants and people of color, the state of California is concluding its funding for its Stop the Hate initiative. Community leaders say the funding must be restored.
“We don’t use the words 'Stop Hate,' but this entire exhibit is about uplifting stories about Asian American folks that often don’t get heard,” said Miko Lee.
