岡薩雷茲醫師（Eloisa Gonzalez）2月11日在洛杉磯縣新冠肺炎聯合資訊中心（COVID-19 Joint Information Center）舉辦的少數媒體說明會上表示，去年底激增的新冠肺炎確診病例、住院人數和死亡人數目前已大幅減少。
洛杉磯縣衛生局歷史總醫院健康中心（Historic General Hospital Wellness Center）整合醫學主任岡薩雷茲說：「確診病例正在以一個令人振奮的速度減少。」2月初，洛杉磯縣單日新增新冠病例從上個月的1萬5000例減少為4500例，不過，現在宣布戰勝疫情仍為時過早。
值得注意的是，現在單日新增4500個確診病例是去年9月時的三倍。衛生官員擔心，如果民眾放鬆警惕，恐怕會再出現另一波疫情。
與會嘉賓除了岡薩雷茲醫師，還有金凱倫醫師（Karen Kim，音譯）和派瑞醫師（Raymond Perry），他們分別是洛杉磯縣衛生局基本醫療臨床品質（Primary Care Clinical Quality）主任，和南洛杉磯休伯特韓佛瑞全面醫療中心（Hubert Humphrey Comprehensive Health Center）主任。
岡薩雷茲表示，截至2月5日，洛縣的平均單日住院人數已經減少42%到4608人，但還是遠遠超過11月初的760人。
新冠單日新增死亡人數從11月初的13人狂飆到1月的220人，目前雖已減少45%，但岡薩雷茲說：「每天有超過200人死亡的日子實在持續了太久。」
她說：「能繼續減少病毒傳播的方法就是維持安全預防措施，包括保持社交距離、佩戴口罩、勤洗手、避免群聚，即使接種了疫苗也一樣。」
岡薩雷茲強調，就算已經接種了第二劑疫苗也要小心，因為接種疫苗後要等一、兩個星期疫苗才會生效，而且，疫苗的有效率為95%，意味有5%無效，即每20人中會有1人接種疫苗後仍有可能染疫。
岡薩雷茲表示，截至目前為止，洛縣已經有120萬人接種了疫苗，其中約25萬人接種了第二劑。洛縣正在組織機動小組，到縣內受疫情打擊最嚴重的社區為養老院長者施打疫苗，社區醫療工作者也組成團隊，掃街宣傳如何接種疫苗，並駁斥不實的病毒資訊、迷思和詐騙。
她還表示，VaccinateLACounty.com和VacunateLosAngeles.com一直是獲得最新疫情和疫苗訊息的重要網站，它們還提供接種註冊和預約的連結。
她說：「要小心詐騙。接種疫苗無需具備公民或合法居留身份，只要能證明你住在本縣即可，證明文件可以是水電費帳單、汽車或學校登記證、房租收據、受雇文件、報稅、保險或法院文件。接種站不會要求你出示出生證明，即使不提供移民身份證明也可以接種。」
衛生局不會向移民局或其他與移民有關的單位提供民眾的個人訊息，疫苗註冊系統與這些單位並沒有連線，而且，醫療訊息依法必須保密。
岡薩雷茲還表示，沒有方法可以提前接種疫苗，儘管某些「奇蹟療法」可能可以減輕新冠症狀，但是，兩種獲得批准上市的疫苗，是我們目前僅知可以對抗新冠病毒的方法。因此，如果有人告訴你還有其他方法可以對抗新冠病毒，千萬不要相信。
金凱倫表示，洛縣衛生局遵遁聯邦疾病管制與預防中心（Centers for Disease Control）和州縣的指南，從去年12月18日起為醫護人員施打了1萬8500劑疫苗和1萬6000劑第二劑疫苗，並從1月21日起為病人施打了1萬2600劑疫苗。
她指出，已經接種疫苗的民眾中，60%是西語裔，10%是非裔，10%是亞裔，15%是其他族裔。
金醫師表示，疫苗接種為免費，往返接種站的交通接送服務也是免費，只要在預約時註明就可安排，有沒有保險都可以預約。
金醫師和其他與會嘉賓強調，民眾接種疫苗面臨的最大挑戰，就是要想辦法獲得足夠的疫苗。
休伯特韓佛瑞全面醫療中心的派瑞醫師表示，他們主要服務南洛杉磯地區4萬5000名非裔和西語裔居民。他說：「許多人對終於有機會保護自己並協助社區感到興奮，我們也很高興。」
他表示，有一位長者在接種疫苗後，在等候室開心地手舞足蹈。一對夫婦用接種疫苗來慶祝他們結婚50周年，並期待兩人再共度另一個50年。
對於他服務的社區對疫苗接種計劃有猶豫和懷疑，他表示可以理解。不過，他說：「這個疫苗不是實驗，我們知道它是安全的，我們希望每個人都能接種。我們的社區現在每天仍不斷有人死於新冠肺炎。」
他說：「我們社區的新冠肺炎風險比其他地區更立即。」鑑於疫情風險現在仍然存在，他說：「從『風險收益原理』的角度來看，應該要強制每個人儘快接種疫苗。」
