Event Overview

Over 300 entries were submitted for this year’s Ethnic Media Services-California Black Media awards ceremony, honoring excellence in journalism in the ethnic media sector. 25 judges– all veteran journalists, academics, communications specialists familiar with ethnic media — reviewed the entries and remarked on the high quality of this year’s submissions. “How do you judge the best from the best,” one judge wrote.

This Friday, six of the winners will discuss their winning entries, the challenges they faced in getting the story, and the in-depth pieces they are currently covering or hope to cover this year. Reporters will get an opportunity to engage with the winners, to gather tips and inspiration for their own work.
