California Defends Immigrant Students as Federal Aid Fears Mount

Event Overview

American Community Media, in partnership with the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), will host a statewide media briefing to reaffirm California’s commitment to supporting immigrant, refugee, and undocumented students and families.

As federal challenges with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) continue to create confusion and concern—particularly around unprecedented federal data sharing—California leaders are working together to promote the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) as a safe, inclusive, and reliable alternative.

The roundtable will include perspectives from a student in the Los Angeles region, a parent from Kern County, a representative from the community-based organization 10,000 Degrees, and leadership from the California Student Aid Commission. This timely discussion will spotlight the lived experiences of immigrant and mixed-status families and the proactive steps being taken to protect access to higher education for all California students.
