Video by Indiatimes. Catastrophic Floods Killed Hundreds in Pakistan | Mass Burials as Death Toll Soars.
From Pakistan’s mountains to the streets of Hong Kong and Seoul, Asia has been hammered by a chain of extreme weather events since May to mid August. Monsoon floods, flash storms, and typhoons have killed hundreds, displaced millions, and exposed fragile infrastructure across the region.
🇵🇰 Pakistan: Deadly Monsoon Floods
Since late June, catastrophic monsoon rains have driven floods and flash-floods across Pakistan, killing over 1,000 people and injuring more than 1,000. About 6.9 million people have been affected. Entire villages were submerged, more than 229,000 houses destroyed or damaged, and over 2,800 km of roads, 239 bridges, and hundreds of health facilities ravaged.
🇮🇳 India: Flash Floods and Monsoon Damage
Video by WION. What are Cloudbursts Behind Flash Floods Wreaking Havoc in India, Pakistan?
Northern India’s 2025 monsoon brought deadly floods and landslides across Himalayan states such as Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir as well as downstream plains. A flash flood in Dharali (Uttarakhand) left dozens missing or dead. In neighbouring Punjab and lowland zones, swollen rivers submerged entire villages and farmland — triggering evacuations, widespread crop loss and raising fears about long-term damage.
🇨🇳 China and Hong Kong: Record-Breaking Rain
Video by MIRROR NOW. China Floods Update: 80+ Dead, 80,000 Evacuated As Massive Landslides, Storms Ravage Beijing.
China’s 2025 monsoon season has brought some of its most destructive flooding in recent years, with Beijing among the worst hit. At least 45 people have died in the capital, including 31 elderly residents trapped in a Miyun care home, and tens of thousands have been evacuated across surrounding districts.
Nationwide, dozens more deaths have been reported from floods and landslides in northern and western provinces, including Gansu and Inner Mongolia, where flash floods have caused multiple casualties.
Tropical Storm Podul triggered more than 15,000 coastal evacuations in Fujian, and Typhoon Wipha left several dead or missing in Shandong. Authorities remain on high alert as heavy rain continues across multiple regions.
Video by Firstpost. Flash Floods In Hong Kong; Worst August Rain Since 1884.
In early August, Hong Kong recorded its heaviest August rainfall since 1884 — over 350 mm in a single day. The storm triggered a historic run of Hong Kong Observatory “black rainstorm” warnings (four between July 29 and August 5, with a fifth on August 14). Schools, courts and hospitals shut down; streets and stairways turned into torrents; and citywide flooding disrupted travel, businesses and public services.
🇰🇷 South Korea: Capital Region Flooding
Heavy summer rains between July and mid-August 2025 triggered nationwide flooding and landslides, killing at least 23 people with 9 missing. More than 18,000 people were evacuated and over 45,000 households lost power. In the capital region alone, torrential downpours dumped 270–320 mm in a single event, collapsing roads, flooding homes, and forcing mass evacuations.
🇯🇵 Japan: Out-of-Season Downpours
Japan faced severe flooding in August 2025 as heavy rain hit Kyushu and southwestern regions, including Kumamoto Prefecture. Millions were urged to evacuate as rivers overflowed, roads washed away, and rail services shut down. Several deaths and missing persons were reported, with hundreds injured and thousands of homes damaged. Rescue crews worked through continuous rain and widespread landslide risks.

🇹🇼 Taiwan: Typhoon Podul and Torrential Rains
Southern Taiwan endured weeks of torrential rainfall and flooding, leaving five confirmed dead, three missing, and dozens injured. Over 5,900 people were evacuated after heavy rain triggered landslides and widespread inundation. Then Typhoon Podul made landfall on August 13, adding another round of flooding and prompting mass evacuations.
🌡️ Shared Climate Drivers
Experts say these disasters are fueled by common forces: a warmer atmosphere intensifying monsoons, warmer seas powering stronger typhoons, and altered jet streams stalling storms over Japan and Korea. Rapid urbanization worsens flooding by overwhelming drainage systems.
